Indoor/Outdoor Recreation, DAG Notes, March 25th

  • Laundromat
  • Bowling lanes and Games room

o    Cannot be isolated!- no basement. Must be well seen and not just “tucked in” somewhere.
o    Signage to advertise location does not always work. Need visibility

  • Clustering?

o    Hours of operation (cluster facilities with similar closing times, open hours)
o    Group vibrancy of activities in close proximity

  • Games room should be separated from study space and other quiet space because of noise
  • Dance club

o    Integrate with brew pub?
o    Lighting issues

  • Outdoor Volleyball courts

o    Indoor courts? Perhaps in a sunroom of sorts-hybrid space

  • Electronic Gaming center

o    The future of gaming: arcade style versus large rooms for multiplayer space

  • Active vs. more laid-back social recreation areas

o    Active= physical exertion areas
o    Social= games rooms, trivia areas, board games, etc…
o    Need to be conscious of both how these spaces interact, and how they are laid out in the design

  • Programmable outdoor space
  • Table Tennis

o    Enclosed? Glass room?
o    Need to be somewhat contained (wandering balls, etc…), but not isolated- design challenge
o    Coupling table tennis room with rentable space

  • Diversity of space!
  • Flooring materials
  • Ski rental space and storage space
  • Give landscape character (hills) and texture
